Please be advised that there is at least 1 year wait for a plot.
How to become a member:
Here is the process for new membership (in this order):
1. Read Garden ByLaws on the website
2. Email the Membership Coordinator and include:
-your full name
-address
-phone number
-and any other information you’d like to include like special skills or interests. east4thstreetgarden.membership@gmail.com
3. Schedule a tour with the Membership coordinator.
4. Volunteer at (1) maintenance day OR (1) event.
REMEMBER TO SIGN IN TO THE ORANGE BINDER THE DAY YOU VOLUNTEER AND LET MEMBERSHIP KNOW THAT YOU WORKED.
You will not get credit for attending the event if you do not sign the book.
5. When the board has their monthly internal meeting they will bring new memberships applications to the table.
6. Choose a committee/workgroup (see below).
7. Attend a “Membership Meeting” after you’ve worked a maintenance day or event. New members are voted in by regular members and by the board. You must be present at the voting meeting for your membership to be approved. I will let you know when that meeting will be.
When the above is finalized and you become a new member, you will be added to the Google group email list and receive a key to the garden. WELCOME!
Responsibilities of garden members:
- Attend 3 Member Meetings (approx. 4-5/yr)
- Attend 6 Maintenance Days (approx. 8-9/yr).
- Perform at least (4) open-hour shifts (April-October, 2 hour shifts each)
- Regular maintenance of your assigned area or other work assignment (see below)
- Pay annual dues of $25 (due each Spring)
- Organic gardening only
Privileges:
- Key to the garden – You may come in anytime.
- Plots – as available. (Or placing of 2 gardening containers.) Plot wait list is at least 1 year. New plots are assigned in October. Must be an active member for one full year and continue to be in good standing and work the above required duties listed.
- Workshops on gardening (internal and GreenThumb).
- Composting: compost your food scraps at the garden!
- Community gardens for cutting flowers, healing and cooking herbs
- Events: Children’s Garden, music, readings, tag sales, community picnics and more.
Probation
If members do not fulfill their responsibilities by the end of the year, they will be put on probation. This means that:
- Members without plots will be moved to the bottom of the waiting list.
- Members with plots will have one season to address their responsibilities. If they are not addressed, the plot will be reassigned to another member
